What we are learning this week....

In Reader's Workshop, we are using the Focus on First curriculum.  We have started our first unit and our work centers around the question "How do we build strong communities?"  We have read different kinds of texts -- books, songs, poems -- to help us think about ourselves and our community.

We have also been learning about nouns, and identifying them in texts.

In Writer's Workshop, students have started writing books!  We are learning about the routines and materials we will use this year as first grade writers.

In Math, students are working on math games and activities that reinforce counting skills.  Ask your child about some of the games we have played -- Roll and Record, and Build It.  Students are practicing these skills in order to get ready to work on addition story problems next week.

We have also done a lot of work around our Curley Cares expectations -- how we care about ourselves, each other and our school.  We are building a strong community in our classrooms!

We have had a busy 6 days!!  Check the blog for more information about what's happening in Grade 1.
